Policies & General Info

Academy of Music would like to thank all the families that come (whether in person or online) to the studio for lessons. Because of the high volume of students and equally high retention rate, there is often a wait time required to get a spot in the studio. In addition, the following policies are in place to help things run smoothly:

  1. Lessons will be paid for in advance of each month in one of the following ways: postdated cheques, cash, or e-transfer. Cheques are made payable to Lee Watson, e-transfers can be sent to leelwatson29@gmail.com. Summer lessons are due in one payment at the beginning of July.

  2. Lessons are a yearlong commitment (September through June) however in the event of an unexpected change mid-year, one month’s notice must be given prior to termination of lessons or the month paid in full.

  3. All piano students must have an instrument at home to practice on. Regular, weekly practice is expected from all students. Lessons are a big commitment and practice is part of that!

  4. All lessons are private; please do not drop off students early or pick them up late as they will need to wait outside on the porch to maintain the privacy for the other students around their time.

  5. Only one student is allowed in the teaching studio at a time, please do not drop off multiple children at once as this is distracting for both me and the student. Caregivers of young students are welcomed and encouraged to stay in the studio for the duration of the lesson as this helps you assist in weekly practice.

  6. Cancelled lessons. There are no make-up lessons for cancelled lessons for sickness or otherwise. If a student is sick, they are to notify the teacher and the lesson will move online, they are not to attend an in-person lesson while unwell. Alternatively, a private YouTube link will be sent with a personalized lesson for that student to work with during the week. If you know in advance you’ll be away and provide me with 48 hours notice I will attempt to switch you with another student, if this is not available then a video lesson can be provided in place of the missed lesson.

  7. Vacation lessons. If you find that you or your child is going through a tough season and practicing isn’t a realistic option, please let me know. I can adjust the lessons for a season in consultation with you, to keep them learning and enjoying music without the added stress of practice.

  8. In the event of the teacher’s absence, adjustment will be made.

  9. Time lost because of a student’s lateness cannot be made up.

Academy Of Music will also host two recitals this year for our own students on Sunday December 10th 2023 (University of Windsor, SOCA Building) and Sunday June 9th 2024 (University of Windsor, SOCA Building).
